Logo Genius

I want to do a “Logo-a-Day” challenge. But break it down into different types each month. I’m 11 days in to this month, but would like to start with wine label branding.

And quite frankly, could simply stay with one company - CF NAPA… As they say themselves, ‘Design for the wine, spirits and beer industries constitute 100% of the work we do— this singular focus has made us experts in the category.’ And wow, do they ever know their stuff!

Flicking through their gallery, I am wowed by their range of expertly crafted labels. Clever, funny, colourful, elegant - they have it all.

Let’s begin with today’s: Stone Man by Charles Krug.

Shopping for gifts

I’ve always envied the person that finds no difficulty in present shopping. Why is it so hard for me?! Its made infinitely worse when you do not know the receiver so well…. I must over think it….. I used to always engage the help of my clever brother and pair up with him for gift buying. Somehow the combination of our two minds would come up with something fabulous. His generosity, and my freed creativity - knowing I couldn’t be held entirely responsible if the gift went belly-up because of collaboration. In fact, Jono and I got so good at this gift-giving business that I believe people started inviting us to parties just to experience it for themselves…

By the by - unfortunately I don’t have Jono’s help in this one and I’m stuck….. Would she like jewelry, perfume, clothes, music, vouchers….? It all seems so corny. I enjoy giving something that is a little bit of me in the gift….

I hate it when people through out cheesy quotes as a mantra like: the manner of giving is worth more than gift itself…. As someone who personally enjoys the act of unwrapping something pretty herself, I don’t think that will fly. Might be a bit hypocritical….

Remembering - here’s to Vision..

Printshop graphic design…
Sitting in this cramped little office with other frazzled workers and rushing through all the multitasking you must complete before the blessed weekend takes me back to the good old days with Paul and Vision. Similar tasks and dramas, I remember when I was pulling my hair out trying to keep up with all the little (and big) jobs that are all time consuming. And worse. “People-consuming”…..

So happy to remember the happy days in the little orange office, with my big white desk, and beautiful Apple computers. Had my little photos set up, and my routine down pat. Loved bouncing off the walls with my crazy (way too good to me) boss. And Toshis Japanese food on a Friday…. nothing seems better to my rumbling stomach right now…

This being my first day, and there is a pause as I wait for direction, I wish I had brought some food… But I know there is not time to dash out and grab something to eat. So instead, I pass my time with a walk down memory lane and social media. I know you (whoever you are) won’t read it, but it so happens that I am also remembering how I love to just write things down… Just for the hell of it.

Time to go… I am hearing the boss scream out “Bloody hell, we are in trouble!” Not a good sign. I fear I may never have that mouth watering sushi for a lunch break again. Sigh.
